In Manteca, clean drinking water is provided to an elementary school

In part, thanks to a $21253 grant from the State Water Resources Control Board’s Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund, Manteca Nile Garden Elementary School will receive safe drinking water thanks to a consolidation with the City of Manteca's public water system.

Nile Garden School was consolidated with the city's water system with the assistance of Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC). School water users will be educated about the project with the help of RCAC, which oversees deliverables submission, invoicing, and quarterly reporting. A recent contract was won by Wood Rogers with RCAC's assistance.

Besides $47 million from the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund and $300000 from the Department of Water Resources Proposition 84 Grant, the City will be able to install 6500 feet of transmission mains, a new groundwater well, and an arsenic treatment system. Public outreach will also be conducted by the City with the assistance grant.

In Manteca, Nile Garden Elementary School relies on groundwater wells for its drinking water. Historically, the well has violated the maximum contaminant levels for both arsenic and 12,3-trichloropropane. By completing this project, the school will be able to mitigate these issues and provide safe drinking water to students and faculty.

Aside from the city, the Manteca Unified School District emphasized the importance of this project and looks forward to working with partners to make it a success.

The Nile Garden Well 30 Project is welcomed by the Manteca Unified School District, said Joan Arnold, Facilities and Operations Department Supervisor. Water supply for the school will be established through this project, which is essential to its continued operations. Further modernizing the school and improving the health of the surrounding community are also vital to this project. A significant part of the project's success depends on the support of state and municipal partners.

Elba Mijango, Associate Engineer from City of Manteca, also recognizes the value of this project: The City of Manteca is happy to be working with the State Water Board and the Manteca Unified School District on the Nile Garden Well 30 Project because it will provide drinking water to Nile Garden Elementary School and add another water source to our community. It is our hope that this project will be completed through the continued collaboration and work of the City staff.
